But if you were to play the same game at 1440p and 120fps, you’d get about 90 FPS. That’s a huge difference!
What Does G-Sync Do?
G-Sync works by taking advantage of the GPU graphics processing unit in your graphics card. It uses the power of your GPU to calculate how many pixels to display each frame. So instead of having to wait until the next frame to explain what happened in the last frame, G-Sync calculates how many pixels to explain every single frame. This way, you never miss a beat. In this case, the screen will flicker between explaining the previous frame and the next frame. This is very noticeable when reading movies or playing games.

This means that the monitor runs at a higher refresh rate when there aren’t many frames being rendered like during idle periods, and it runs at a lower refresh rate when there are lots of frames being rendered during gameplay. This is why FreeSync is sometimes called adaptive sync. Adaptive sync is similar to Vsync, except that it adapts the refresh rate based on the content being displayed rather than forcing the refresh rate to always match the frame rate. So, yes, FreeSync matters, but it doesn’t necessarily improve performance.
Is 144Hz worth it without G-Sync?
