One sure fire way of making sure you know the pinout of a chip before fixing it to a daughterboard is to of course get the datasheet of that particular chipset and follow the “soldering instructions” link about halfway down the page….this means you will have a printed reference manual with a diagram of the chip in question so that you know exactly what each of the legs does before it is connected into the circuit and hence will avoid unnecessary problems later on while you are trying to make adjustments to your system settings and so on as well as the fact that you will then be able to unscrew the system later without any fear of accidentally disconnecting something
